Custom Mukhawar Tailoring in Dubai, Sharjah and Ajman

A traditional Emirati mukhawar, cut and stitched to your measurements. Our tailor comes to your home to measure, you choose the fabric and embroidery, and the finished piece is delivered to your door — with free pickup and delivery across the UAE.

Where can you get a mukhawar tailored in the UAE?

Khayat tailors custom mukhawar across Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman and the wider UAE, with a female tailor visiting your home to take measurements — there is no need to travel to a shop. You can supply your own fabric or choose from ours, bring a reference design or a garment to copy, and add embroidery including traditional talli work. Standard turnaround is three to five days, pickup and delivery are free, and the price is agreed before any cutting begins. Khayat has tailored in the UAE since 1990.

What Is an Emirati Mukhawar?

The mukhawar (مخور, plural مخاوير) is a traditional Emirati dress worn by women across the UAE. Depending on the occasion and the style, it may be worn on its own or beneath an abaya. What it looks like varies a great deal: an everyday cotton mukhawar for the house is a different piece entirely from one made for Eid, a wedding or a family gathering.

Decoration varies just as much. Some designs carry only a simple finish at the neckline and cuffs; others are worked with detailed embroidery. Among the most recognisable is talli — the traditional Emirati braid-work often applied around the neckline, collar and sleeve openings. Talli appears on many mukhawar designs, but not every mukhawar has it, and both approaches are equally authentic.

How a Mukhawar Differs from a Jalabiya

The two are often confused, and the words overlap in daily use. In practice, "jalabiya" is the broader term used across the Gulf for a long, loose dress. "Mukhawar" refers specifically to the Emirati form of that dress, with its own cut and its own decorative traditions. If you are after a general occasion or Ramadan dress, our jalabiya tailoring page covers that. If you want the Emirati piece with its traditional finishing, you are in the right place.

Choosing Fabric for Everyday, Ramadan and Eid

What the mukhawar is for should decide the cloth. For daily wear in UAE heat, soft cotton and linen breathe well and wash easily, and suit lighter embroidery. For Ramadan evenings and family gatherings, crepe and chiffon drape beautifully and carry embroidery without feeling heavy. For Eid and weddings, heavier satins, silk blends and richly worked fabrics hold their shape and take detailed talli and beadwork.

Colour follows the same logic — earth tones and soft neutrals for everyday, deeper shades and richer finishes for occasions. If you are unsure, tell us the occasion on WhatsApp and we will suggest options honestly rather than pushing you to the most expensive cloth.

Why Have Your Mukhawar Made With Us

Sharjah and Dubai have excellent mukhawar tailors, and many of them have been working for decades. What we offer is a different way of getting there: you do not travel, you do not queue, and you do not negotiate. A female tailor comes to your home, the price is agreed up front, and the finished mukhawar is delivered back to you.

Behind that is a workshop that has been tailoring in the UAE since 1990, handling everything from kandora to abaya to alterations. You can read more about who Khayat is, check our tailoring prices, or look through Eid tailoring if you are planning ahead for the season.

Mukhawar Tailoring — Common Questions

What is a mukhawar?
A mukhawar is a traditional Emirati dress worn by women in the UAE. Depending on the style and occasion it can be worn on its own or beneath an abaya, and designs range from plain everyday cotton pieces to richly embroidered dresses for Eid and weddings.
Can I provide my own fabric?
Yes. Many customers buy fabric from the souk or a textile shop and hand it to us to cut and stitch. You can also choose fabric from what we carry if you prefer to arrange everything in one place.
Do you do talli and embroidery?
Yes. We apply traditional talli work as well as machine and hand-finished embroidery at the neckline, cuffs and hem. You decide how much detail you want, and we price it accordingly before starting.
Can you copy a mukhawar I already have?
Yes. If you have a mukhawar that fits well or a design you like, we can work from the garment itself or from a clear reference photo.
Is home measurement available?
Yes. A female tailor visits your home in Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman or elsewhere in the UAE to take measurements and go through fabric and design choices with you.
Is a female tailor available?
Yes. Measurements and fittings for ladies' garments are carried out by a female tailor at your home, so you can be fitted in privacy.
How long does mukhawar tailoring take?
Standard turnaround is three to five days from measurement. Detailed embroidery or talli work can add time, and we tell you the realistic date before you confirm the order.
How much does a custom mukhawar cost?
The price depends mainly on the fabric and how much embroidery or talli work you want. Send a photo of your fabric or design on WhatsApp and we will give you a firm price before any cutting begins — with pickup and delivery included.
Is pickup and delivery free?
Yes. Home measurement, pickup and delivery are free anywhere in the UAE, with no minimum order.
Can you alter a mukhawar I already own?
Yes. We take in, let out, shorten and repair existing mukhawar, including work around embroidered sections where the fabric allows it.
Do you tailor mukhawar in Sharjah and Ajman?
Yes. We cover Sharjah and Ajman fully, with home measurement and free pickup and delivery, as well as Dubai and the rest of the UAE.
What is the difference between a mukhawar and a jalabiya?
Jalabiya is the broader Gulf term for a long, loose dress. Mukhawar refers specifically to the Emirati version, with its own cut and traditional decorative finishing such as talli.
