Tailoring Prices in the UAE — Honest & Transparent

Wondering what tailoring or alterations cost in Dubai and Sharjah? Here's a clear, honest guide to our prices — with free pickup and delivery included, and no surprises at the end.

What Tailoring Actually Costs in Dubai and Sharjah

Ask three different tailors in the UAE for a price and you may get three very different answers — often without much explanation. That's frustrating when all you want to know is whether hemming a pair of trousers will cost twenty dirhams or eighty. This page exists to fix that. Below you'll find honest, realistic price ranges for the tailoring and alteration work Khayat does every day across Dubai and Sharjah.

Two things to know before the numbers. First, every figure here already includes free pickup and delivery — what we quote is what you pay. Second, these are ranges, not fixed menus, because no two garments are identical. A simple machine hem on cotton trousers is quick work; the same hem on a lined, flared evening gown takes triple the time. When you message us on WhatsApp with a photo, we give you one firm price before any work starts, and that price doesn't change.

Khayat has been tailoring in the UAE since 1990. Over three decades we've learned that customers don't mind paying a fair price — what they mind is not knowing the price, or discovering charges at the end. So we keep it simple: clear quote first, work second, no surprises ever.

Clothing Alteration Prices in Dubai & Sharjah

Alterations are the most common jobs we handle, so here's where most questions land. Typical ranges:

  • Trouser & jeans hemming: AED 20–35 (original hem preserved on jeans costs slightly more)
  • Waist taken in or let out: AED 40–80 depending on construction and lining
  • Shirt slimming or shortening: AED 30–60
  • Dress resizing or reshaping: AED 50–150 depending on fabric, lining and detail
  • Suit jacket adjustments: AED 60–150 — sleeves, shoulders and body shaping vary in complexity
  • Zipper replacement: AED 25–60 including the new zipper
  • Abaya or kandora alterations: AED 25–80 for length, sleeves or width
  • Repairs, patches & tears: from AED 15 depending on damage

Pickup & Delivery — Already in the Price

Many tailoring services in the UAE advertise low prices, then add a collection charge, a delivery charge, or a "service fee" at checkout. We don't. Free pickup and delivery across Dubai and Sharjah has been part of how Khayat works from the start, and it's already baked into every range you see on this page.

Our driver collects at a time you choose between 8AM and 10PM, every garment is logged and photographed at the workshop, and finished pieces come back pressed and ready to wear. You pay on delivery, after inspecting the work — and if anything isn't right, we re-adjust at no extra cost until it is. That re-adjustment guarantee is also included in the price, not sold as an add-on.

Prefer measurements taken in person? Our tailor at home Dubai service sends a tailor to your door for free as well.

Same Prices Across Dubai and Sharjah

Our prices don't change by neighbourhood. Whether the pickup is from Dubai Marina, Mirdif, Business Bay, Jumeirah, Al Barsha, Deira, International City or Arabian Ranches — or from Al Nahda, Al Majaz, Muwaileh, Al Khan or Al Qasimia in Sharjah — the quote is the same and delivery stays free.

Sharjah customers can find area-specific details on our tailor in Sharjah page; for urgent jobs anywhere in Dubai, our same day alterations service covers most areas with express turnaround.

What Actually Affects a Tailoring Price

Knowing what drives cost helps you judge any quote — ours or anyone else's. The honest factors are:

  • Fabric. On custom pieces, fabric is usually the single biggest variable. A kandora in premium Japanese fabric can cost double one in everyday cotton blend.
  • Construction. Lined, structured or layered garments take longer to alter cleanly than simple unlined ones. A suit jacket is hours of work; a t-shirt hem is minutes.
  • Detail work. Embroidery, beadwork, original hems on jeans, pattern matching on stripes and checks — anything that must be preserved or recreated adds time.
  • Urgency. Standard turnaround carries no premium. Same-day express work carries a small, clearly stated surcharge.
  • What's included. Pickup, pressing, quality checks and re-adjustments are included at Khayat. Elsewhere they may be extras — always worth asking.

Pricing Frustrations We Hear Every Week

  • "The shop quoted one price, then charged more when I came to collect."
  • "I was told 'it depends' and never got an actual number."
  • "Delivery fees doubled the cost of a small alteration."
  • "I paid in advance and had no leverage when the fit came back wrong."
  • "Every tailor quotes a different price and I can't tell what's fair."

Our answer to all of these is the same process: photo first, one firm all-inclusive quote second, payment only on delivery after you've inspected the work. If a re-adjustment is needed, it's free. That structure removes every one of the problems above — which is exactly why we built it that way.

Tailoring Costs in the UAE — Your Questions

The pricing questions we answer most often on WhatsApp.

How much do clothing alterations cost in Dubai?
Most everyday alterations fall between AED 20 and AED 150. Simple hemming on trousers or jeans starts around AED 20–35, waist adjustments typically run AED 40–80, and more involved work like resizing a dress or restructuring a jacket sits at the higher end. Send a photo on WhatsApp and we'll quote the exact price before any work begins.
What does kandora tailoring cost in the UAE?
A custom-stitched kandora at Khayat typically costs between AED 150 and AED 450 depending on the fabric you choose, the collar and cuff style, and any detailing. Premium Japanese and Korean fabrics sit at the upper end; everyday cotton blends cost less.
How much is custom abaya tailoring in Dubai?
Custom abayas generally range from AED 200 to AED 350 and up. Plain everyday abayas in standard nida fabric are the most affordable, while designs with embroidery, beadwork, or premium Korean and Japanese fabrics cost more. Abaya alterations are far less — usually AED 25–80.
Is pickup and delivery really free, or is it added to the price?
It's genuinely free across Dubai and Sharjah. The price we quote on WhatsApp is the full amount you pay — there is no delivery charge, fuel surcharge, or service fee added afterwards.
Do you charge extra for same-day or urgent work?
Urgent same-day alterations carry a modest express surcharge, which we always state upfront in the quote. Standard one-to-two-day turnaround has no surcharge at all.
Why do tailoring prices vary so much between shops in the UAE?
Three things drive the differences: the tailor's skill and experience, the quality of materials like threads, zippers and interfacing, and whether services like pickup, pressing and re-adjustments are included or billed separately. A very low headline price often grows once extras are added. We quote one final figure that includes everything.
